VDF!

on August 30, 2018 No comments

This Saturday 9/1 from 11:30AM-6PM at the brewery and alongside Hop Wave 2, we will be selling cans of Vulgar Display of Flower at $18 per four pack. Limit 1 case per person, limits subject to change.

Vulgar Display of Flower (8.5% ABV) is a tribute to an aggressive yet balanced assault on the senses. It blends East-meets-West coast DIPA with our own Equilibrium twist. It is dry, bitter, piny, resinous, yet remains smooth, juicy, and drinkable. This concoction displays the hop flower’s assertive yet delicious nature. This batch of Vulgar Display of Flower exhibits the “EQ juice” finish we have been working on recently.

Hop Wave 2!

on August 29, 2018 No comments

This Saturday 9/1 from 11:30AM – 6PM at the brewery, we will debut cans of Hop Wave 2 at $20 per 4-pk, limit 1 case per person. Limits subject to change.

Hop Wave 2 takes one of our favorite DIPAs, dHop2, supersizes the hop charge and adds a touch of lactose. We mentioned during the dHop14/and Hop Wave 14 release that we’ve had our experiments on high, where we were able to create an intense amount of the “EQ juice” at the small scale and we’ve been working on applying this to commercial batches. We’ve made great progress in the lab, and while experiments remain on high, we believe this batch exhibits the EQ juice we’re looking for.

Hop Wave 2 pours a very murky tangerine color, releasing notes of bright tropical juice, pulpy tangerine, and earthy grass. The taste is dank-citrus, pine juice, with an escalating bright finishes that builds into smooth hop frosting.

Meet Michelle

on August 24, 2018 No comments

Meet Michelle, she works on a lot of the creative and visual tasks here at Equilibrium. She is behind our social media platforms and the producer of the images you see of our beer. She dreams up some merch ideas, drafts promo items for events and festivals and often brainstorms label ideas with Canadian Kyle.
She started out drinking beer like Sam Adams and Magic Hat but things really clicked in 2011 when DeCicco’s opened close to home. They offered over a dozen beers on draft, opening her eyes on the many styles and wide assortment that was out there. That lead her to start trading beer and meeting people from all over she now considers friends. Michelle practices as a registered dental hygienist by day and recommends flossing daily. Besides beer, she enjoys traveling, indie music, art, cooking and photography. She often finds a way to combine many of her hobbies.

Speed Round:
What was the craziest thing you’ve ever ate and where were you?
The craziest thing I’ve had was a candied baby octopus lollipop stuffed with a hard boiled quail egg. It was in Kyoto, Japan. It was really good.

Favorite memory at EQ so far?
I would say arriving for the CIBASS release. Things were electric. It was the eve of Thanksgiving and just an exciting week and time leading up to the release. At the end of the day we all popped some good bottles and shared some stories. It was our own little thanksgiving celebration and something I was thankful to be apart of.

Judging by some of your IG pics you have a decent sneaker collection. Do you collect anything else?
I have a good collection of earrings. I try to buy a unique pair each time I travel. The earrings pictured are carved from actual lava rock harvested in Iceland.

What is something that brings you joy? I would say taking my Nieces and Nephew out for different types of ethnic foods. Soup Dumplings in Queens are up next!

What do you want people to know about the Hudson Valley Region?
It’s a destination with awesome food, great breweries, beer bars, nature, nightlife, art, history and architecture. It has it all. It’s an exciting time, Come visit!
Shoutout to Harry, Benny and Canadian Kyle for this edition of Spotlight.

This Saturday 8/25 from 11:30am-6pm at the brewery alongside Sexual Fluctuation, we will have 100 cases of Photon available. $14 per four pack. Limit 1 case per person, limits subject to change.

Photon (4.8% ABV) is our light and crushable American Pale Ale loaded with pacific northwest hops. It pours a very hazy orange, releasing well-blended notes of apricot, tangerine, peach, mango, and pineapple. It tastes of soft juicy tropical fruits, hop resins, and a hint of biscuit.

Sexual Fluctuation!

on August 22, 2018 No comments

This Saturday 8/25 from 11:30am-6pm at the brewery we will have cans of our District 96 collab Sexual Fluctuation (8% ABV) for sale. $20 per four pack limit 1 case per person, limits subject to change.

District 96 has a special place in our hearts. Sharing pilot batches long before we were Equilibrium, and they even tapped Equilibrium’s first commercial keg ever at their Burger Loft charity event. We’re grateful they have given us a home away from home. When D96 first made Sexual Frustration, John brought a keg up to our line share. As Sexual Frustration is very Galaxy forward and Equilibrium’s Fluctuation is very Citra forward, we thought why not do an 8% DIPA that would be like blending the two beers. Sexual Fluctuation was born.

Sexual Fluctuation is a slight departure from “normal” sexuality, for example, a rugged lumberjack with hair so flowing and silky it makes women wish they were born this man. All are welcome to drink this beer. Please share one with your favorite Lumber Sexual today.

Sexual Fluctuation is a Citra/Galaxy blend (incorporating the latest EQ hop technology). It pours a hazy tangerine orange and releases releasing aromas of passion fruit, peach, lime, and pineapple all integrated with a juicy twist. The taste is a bright creamy tropical sorbet flavor that is dangerously drinkable and balanced. This beer takes dHop5’s lunch money and gives it a wedgie.

MC^2 and Fluctuation!

on August 15, 2018 No comments

This Saturday 8/18 from 11:30am-6pm at the brewery, we will be selling cans of MC² at $18 per four pack and Fluctuation at $20 per four pack. Limit 1 case on each per person, limits subject to change.
MC² (8.0% ABV) is Photon’s big brother. We literally took Photon’s hopping rate and squared it. This DIPA is our tribute to the amazing relationship that energy and mass are balanced, proportional to the speed of a photon squared. It pours a hazy tangerine color, releasing bright tropical notes of mango, pineapple, and apricot. MC² tastes like succulent mango juice loaded with chewy hop resins.

Fluctuation (8.1% ABV) is aromatic and juicy. It pours a very hazy tangerine color, releasing intense tropical aromatics of passion fruit, mango, pineapple, and lychee with an undercurrent of sorbet and cream. This Fluctuation tastes highly juicy, resinous, and tropical with an assertive yet soft bitterness. We consider Fluctuation to be perfectly unbalanced.

Fractal El Dorado + Citra!

on August 10, 2018 No comments

This Saturday 8/11 from 11:30AM – 6PM at the brewery, in addition to dHop14 and Hop Wave 14, we will also release cans of Fractal El Dorado + Citra at $16 per four pack, limit one case per person.

A fractal is something simple at the core yet can produce wonderful and amazingly complex results. The fractal series will have only pale malt and simple hops. We use these beers to investigate how different hops manifest through our processes, allowing us to optimize both our use of hops and our hopping techniques. Fractal El Dorado + Citra pours a resinous-hazy-straw yellow releasing complex aromas of orange juice and pineapple. The taste is similar and reminiscent of pineapple and citrus blended with tropical fruits. The medley of characteristics makes the name “Fractal El Dorado + Citra” warranted indeed.

Hop Wave 14 & dHop14!

on August 9, 2018 No comments

This Saturday 8/11 from 11:30AM – 6PM at the brewery, we will be debut cans of dHop14 (limit 4 4packs person; *see Below) and Hop Wave 14 (Limit 1 case per person), both at $20 per four pack. Limits are subject to change.

It’s been an exciting few weeks at Equilibrium. We had a small-scale experiment that we consider a breakthrough for our hop program and we had a glycol chiller attempt to weld Ricardo to the roof. We were able to trigger an intense amount of the “EQ juice” at the small scale for the first time in a very controlled environment. Subsequently, we have developed and solved a full set of differential equations and have been working on fitting parameters to understand and optimize this very complex dynamic. dHop14 and Hop Wave 14 are our first attempt to upscale and apply our new understanding. While we still have a few things to figure out, we are very happy with this first attempt and this will shape our hop program to come.

dHop14 pours a very hazy tangerine color, releasing bright tropical notes of peach, mango, and cantaloupe with undercurrents of sorbet and cream. The flavor follows the nose with a soft body, resinous juicy middle, and mild bitterness for balance. Hop Wave 14 is a suped-up version of dHop14 with a touch of lactose. The aroma and flavor are more intense with touch of vanilla sweetness and extra smoothness from the lactose. Our experiments are currently on high as we continue to refine and understand what happened at the large scale and we expect amazing beers to come as we further dial this in.

*Below – Unfortunately we had a mechanical failure during our canning run of one of our glycol chillers. We made the decision keg most of dHop14 rather than produce cans we were not happy with. As a result we only have 60 cases available for sat AM plus Thursdays allotment for locals. Hop Wave 14 was a normal canning run.
