Sexual Fluctuation!

on August 22, 2018 No comments

This Saturday 8/25 from 11:30am-6pm at the brewery we will have cans of our District 96 collab Sexual Fluctuation (8% ABV) for sale. $20 per four pack limit 1 case per person, limits subject to change.

District 96 has a special place in our hearts. Sharing pilot batches long before we were Equilibrium, and they even tapped Equilibrium’s first commercial keg ever at their Burger Loft charity event. We’re grateful they have given us a home away from home. When D96 first made Sexual Frustration, John brought a keg up to our line share. As Sexual Frustration is very Galaxy forward and Equilibrium’s Fluctuation is very Citra forward, we thought why not do an 8% DIPA that would be like blending the two beers. Sexual Fluctuation was born.

Sexual Fluctuation is a slight departure from “normal” sexuality, for example, a rugged lumberjack with hair so flowing and silky it makes women wish they were born this man. All are welcome to drink this beer. Please share one with your favorite Lumber Sexual today.

Sexual Fluctuation is a Citra/Galaxy blend (incorporating the latest EQ hop technology). It pours a hazy tangerine orange and releases releasing aromas of passion fruit, peach, lime, and pineapple all integrated with a juicy twist. The taste is a bright creamy tropical sorbet flavor that is dangerously drinkable and balanced. This beer takes dHop5’s lunch money and gives it a wedgie.

MC^2 and Fluctuation!

on August 15, 2018 No comments

This Saturday 8/18 from 11:30am-6pm at the brewery, we will be selling cans of MC² at $18 per four pack and Fluctuation at $20 per four pack. Limit 1 case on each per person, limits subject to change.
MC² (8.0% ABV) is Photon’s big brother. We literally took Photon’s hopping rate and squared it. This DIPA is our tribute to the amazing relationship that energy and mass are balanced, proportional to the speed of a photon squared. It pours a hazy tangerine color, releasing bright tropical notes of mango, pineapple, and apricot. MC² tastes like succulent mango juice loaded with chewy hop resins.

Fluctuation (8.1% ABV) is aromatic and juicy. It pours a very hazy tangerine color, releasing intense tropical aromatics of passion fruit, mango, pineapple, and lychee with an undercurrent of sorbet and cream. This Fluctuation tastes highly juicy, resinous, and tropical with an assertive yet soft bitterness. We consider Fluctuation to be perfectly unbalanced.

Fractal El Dorado + Citra!

on August 10, 2018 No comments

This Saturday 8/11 from 11:30AM – 6PM at the brewery, in addition to dHop14 and Hop Wave 14, we will also release cans of Fractal El Dorado + Citra at $16 per four pack, limit one case per person.

A fractal is something simple at the core yet can produce wonderful and amazingly complex results. The fractal series will have only pale malt and simple hops. We use these beers to investigate how different hops manifest through our processes, allowing us to optimize both our use of hops and our hopping techniques. Fractal El Dorado + Citra pours a resinous-hazy-straw yellow releasing complex aromas of orange juice and pineapple. The taste is similar and reminiscent of pineapple and citrus blended with tropical fruits. The medley of characteristics makes the name “Fractal El Dorado + Citra” warranted indeed.

Hop Wave 14 & dHop14!

on August 9, 2018 No comments

This Saturday 8/11 from 11:30AM – 6PM at the brewery, we will be debut cans of dHop14 (limit 4 4packs person; *see Below) and Hop Wave 14 (Limit 1 case per person), both at $20 per four pack. Limits are subject to change.

It’s been an exciting few weeks at Equilibrium. We had a small-scale experiment that we consider a breakthrough for our hop program and we had a glycol chiller attempt to weld Ricardo to the roof. We were able to trigger an intense amount of the “EQ juice” at the small scale for the first time in a very controlled environment. Subsequently, we have developed and solved a full set of differential equations and have been working on fitting parameters to understand and optimize this very complex dynamic. dHop14 and Hop Wave 14 are our first attempt to upscale and apply our new understanding. While we still have a few things to figure out, we are very happy with this first attempt and this will shape our hop program to come.

dHop14 pours a very hazy tangerine color, releasing bright tropical notes of peach, mango, and cantaloupe with undercurrents of sorbet and cream. The flavor follows the nose with a soft body, resinous juicy middle, and mild bitterness for balance. Hop Wave 14 is a suped-up version of dHop14 with a touch of lactose. The aroma and flavor are more intense with touch of vanilla sweetness and extra smoothness from the lactose. Our experiments are currently on high as we continue to refine and understand what happened at the large scale and we expect amazing beers to come as we further dial this in.

*Below – Unfortunately we had a mechanical failure during our canning run of one of our glycol chillers. We made the decision keg most of dHop14 rather than produce cans we were not happy with. As a result we only have 60 cases available for sat AM plus Thursdays allotment for locals. Hop Wave 14 was a normal canning run.

Aquila

on August 1, 2018 No comments

This Saturday (8/4; 11:30 – 6 PM) we will debut Aquila, our 8% DIPA collab with Horus Aged Ales at $20 per four pack, limit 1 case per person (limits subject to change).

Aquila is the scientific (latin) name for true eagle and the constellation of the eagle that delivered the lightening bolt to the thunder god. Kyle came to Middletown to brew this DIPA with Pale Wheat, Flaked Oats, and Malted Oats, intense kettle hopping of Citra and Mosaic, followed by a large dose of Galaxy, and for Equilibrium’s first time El Dorado in the dry hop. Aquila pours a brilliant hazy yellow releasing intense aromatics of passion fruit, pineapple, mango, and ripe citrus boosted by subtle notes of freshly baked bread. The taste follows the aroma with a chewy resinous finish and a mild and smooth bitterness.

Meet Rich!

on July 31, 2018 No comments

Meet Rich! He is here at the brewery on weekends to help us with sales. He is also our resident hugger and staff teddy bear. Besides hugs, Rich enjoys playing drums and xbox to relax and he loves good sci-fi/horror films. Aliens is still one of his favorites.
Rich has been friends with Pete for many years. When Pete started coming back from Vermont with Heady Topper and Sip of Sunshine years ago,Rich would try them all. One year, Rich won focal banger release tickets in Vermont. He had so much fun being introduced to the beer culture at the release, he was hooked and he says it’s been downhill ever since. Ha.
Feel free to grab some hugs next time you see Rich at the brewery!!

Speed Round:
Do you have a favorite mythical creature?
A Pegasus unicorn hybrid, but on fire and flames trailing it. It may end up on a t-shirt one day.

You are going to the deli for lunch, What is your go to sandwich?
It’s been the same since Junior High, Salami and Swiss on a roll with lettuce tomato mayo and sweet peppers.

What is your favorite memory at Equilibrium so far?
Every weekend is special but still enjoyed our very first release before we realized how many things were about to change.

What’s something you hope to do before the year is over that you haven’t done yet?
I’m hoping to travel a little before the weather turns. It’s nice to get away sometimes.

Favorite breakfast cereal?
Raisin Bran

If you could share a meal with 4 people, dead or alive who would they be?
Rob Zombie, Gene Hoglan, Jhonen Vasquez and Betty White. Anything from arson to homicide could happen at that dinner, but the soundtrack would be great though.
